You TOO can make a differerence...Lanta Animal Welfare
"Our role at LAW is to sterilise as many stray dogs as possible via humane
population control. Unfortunately, some of the methods used by the locals
are
extremely painful and inhumane and such methods involve:
food poisoning or feeding them food mixed with fish hooks
drowning them in the sea
throwing boiling oil on them
cutting them with knives and machetes to name a few. "
When we discovered the Time for Lime Cooking School, there were dogs & cats everywhere. Not knowing that we were also discovering the thing that would steal our hearts and occupy our time on Lanta for the next few days: walking, running & swimming with the dogs.
Are you wondering what YOU can do all the way from your home, whereever in the world you are? Well, we've got some ideas! We will be putting together donation boxes that includes collars, leashes, expired medicines, biodegradable poop bags, and cash donations (they accept paypal right through their website! ) to send to the Junie at the Clinic on a regular basis. THE ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO FIND SAFE HOMES FOR THESE ANIMALS OFF THE ISLANDS. ADOPTION IS POSSIBLE AND THE AVERAGE INCLUSIVE COST IS $1200. MAIA, if you are reading this, expect a phone call in February to see how we can get Dove Lewis involved, particularily with the medicine piece. Believe it or not, Ko Lanta is about to get their very first Vet to assist in sterilizations, surgeries, etc. Their brand new clinic breaks ground in January of 2010.
This was soul-stirring and life changing. A little bit goes a LOOOOOONG Way!
